If your child is defiant to a degree that affects their life functions, this is what’s happening in their brain. A healthy child starts considering options and ways to work around. In a healthy brain, the pink region doesn’t light up quite like this when a person is confronted with a limit or rule. Whether they are overtly aggressive or “passive-aggressive,” parents have options for reducing symptoms of defiance and limiting the stress they bring into the household. Troubled children and teenagers who are pathologically defiant have a brain condition with many possible causes or diagnoses.
